Treatments & Procedures

Acute care
Acutely ill patients such as people with severe breathing difficulty, very high fevers, drowsiness, low blood pressure are evaluated by the physician in the emergency room. Based on clinical condition of the patient the patient is admitted either in to critical care unit or wards. The care of the patient is coordinated with the help of the CCU staff or other specialists as the situation warrants. Procedures like intubation, central lines, lumbar puncture are done with help of specialists.

Infections
All common infections such as malaria, typhoid, dengue, leptospirosis as well as pneumonia, urinary tract infection etc are treated. We also have experience in difficult-to-diagnose fevers, fever of unknown origin and non infectious diseases which present as fever. Management of infection is suitably aided by the support excellent microbiology services.

Chronic medical conditions
Patients who are chronically ill typically have multiple medical issues. These issues may relate to monitoring patient’s response to treatment clinically and laboratory wise, checking drug list for drug interactions, assessing risk of infections etc. There are also specific issues related to adequacy of nutrition, mobility and risk of falls etc. The physician plays a central role in the management in the coordinated care of these patients.

Vaccinations in the adult
Preventive vaccines in the adult are available. There are several vaccine preventable diseases such as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Chicken pox, typhoid fever etc. Special populations such as asthmatics and diabetics require other preventive vaccinations to prevent frequent lung infections. Vaccination related advice to adults id provided by the consultants in internal medicine.

Travel Medicine
With growing air traffic, more and more people travel to exotic locations. Patients are advised specifically regarding precautions, vaccinations etc prior to travel.

Poisoning
Accidental and suicidal ingestion of poisons are managed in a systematic manner. Poisoning secondary to snake bites, scorpion stings are also treated. 24 hours emergency and medical intensive care services ensure seamless care of the patient.

Miscellaneous
A single symptom may mean a problem secondary to many reasons. For example giddiness could mean a problem in the heart, brain or ear. To cite another example, lack of sleep could mean one is anxious, or drinking excessive or coffee or early liver failure. When the cause is not clear a physician evaluates, orders appropriate tests and gets help form the specialists as and when indicated.

With the help of physician assistants, nursing staff, dietician and physiotherapists patients are taught lifestyle changes involving their diet, exercise, medication usage etc. this helps in providing a holistic approach to patient care.

Outpatient Services
The medical OP handles all acute and chronic medical problems. Usually simple problems like fevers, loose stool, and cough are assessed clinically and managed with little or no investigations. More long standing issues are addressed at depth with detailed history and clinical evaluation followed by investigations and when indicated specialists opinions are sought. It is ensured that all practices follow the diction of evidence based medicine.
